Some Words for the Wise
Hey family, friends and random web stalkers: here is a tip.
If you ever decided to comment on a post to this lowly blog, don’t use any of the following words if you want your post to see the light of day.
- holdem
- debt
- consolidation
- poker
- casino
- craps
- roulette
- phentermine
- gambling
- loan
- byob
- payday
- xenical
- cialis
The comment spam-bots made me do it - and no, AC, I haven’t done the CAPTCHA thing yet…

If this blacklisting words isn’t working, I’m using a plugin for wp1.5 called Spam Karma (http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/dev/). It checks IPs against blacklists, looks for blacklisted words etc etc. If its sure its spam it deletes it, if its not sure it makes the submitter do a captcha test. On my site I don’t even have manual comment moderation turned on, it even seems to be doing a decent job at filtering out spam trackbacks.
Of course if your current system ain’t broke though…
