Excellent blog. Thanks to both you and Ryan for making me think about such things!

I just wrote and erased 3 treatises on prayer before I finally realized I have no idea what I'm talking about. :)

I'll have to get back to you when I figure out some answers...

...don't hold your breath.

No real answers here either brother Chris- I agree with you about the the "voice" of God, whatever that is and however that might "sound" being heard in the context of community, mainly the Church. I think one has to emphasize the role of the Holy Spirit into all of these and frankly, many other questions and issues within the framework of our faith. We inerpret, "hear" by reading the Bible with the Holy Spirit as our guide and counselor (See John Chs 14-17)

Much love brother as you seek to understand these important truths, knowing that we might never have the answers we long for until one day-

I have only been a christian (officially) for 8 months now, so I don't know if I have spiritually grown enough to give my thoughts with any authority.
In anycase I too have struggled with thoughts on how God communicates with us and tells us His will for our lives.

I do know God speaks to us through other people.
Many times now I have heard something someone else said that I knew came from God and it was meant for me because it was so specific and so soon after I had a problem. But I have never actually heard his words, recieved visions, dreams, or anything of that sort.

I will recommend you should read the books Heavenly Man and Revolutions in World Missions. In both books miracles if you will occur. Though I think you should come to the books with some skepticsm.
However the books by no means are about the miracles that occur. The first one is about missionary movement in China.
The second one is about missionary movement in India and Asia in general. The main character in the first book even says
these miracles are not to be so focused on and he comments that he believes that miracles don't occur in America because we don't need them
as we are very well off financially.
The chinese christians were extremely poor and persecuted and by no means would they have survived without direct intervention by God.

Also on the question on praying for a bonus. I am a college student and have wondered if I should pray for good grades.
I sometimes think it is stupid since there are more important things in life and it really is a nominal thing.
But either way I believe God wants you to be open and honest with him and should pray about all things that are in your mind.
If it is not God's will then he won't give you the bonus and that's that.
